Sajal Sasanka Sarkar

Born and brought up in Kolkata, Sajal Sasanka Sarkar graduated in Painting from the Rabindro Bharati University there in 1995. Thereafter, he spent two years working at Kolkata, as a practicing artist before he moved to Baroda to pursue a Post Diploma in Graphics (Printmaking) in 2000. After he graduated from the Faculty of Fine Arts at M.S. University, Baroda. Sajal Sasanka Sarkar has always experimented with medium, technique and scale. Whether delicate watercolours or large-format canvases, the artist’s method of experimenting with medium in his work has resulted in a constant variation of style. In an attempt to alter the feel of his surface, the artist combines media with such proficiency, that the viewer is seldom aware of the challenges he creates for himself in doing so. Another unity that Sarkar attempts to establish in his body of work is between the real and surreal. On completion, the various elements in Sarkar’s pieces appear so coherent that it becomes difficult to comprehend their disparities.
